Beryl Kingston received a degree in English from King’s in 1952. She was a teacher from 1952 to 1985, including the post of Head of King’s English Department. Her work has been filmed by King’s Education Department for use in its PGCE course. Kingston has been a published writer from 1980. Her works include family sagas and short stories, poetry, war novels, historical novels and modern novels. Titles include London Pride, War Baby and Two Silver Crosses. Recent works include The Gates of Paradise, a novel about William Blake’s three years in Felpham. Octavia tells the story of a woman born on the eighth day of the eighth month 1888, who was a suffragette and an educational pioneer. Kingston’s forthcoming novel, published this month, is Octavia at War, which continues the story of Octavia’s work in London during WWII.
